How effective are Sale Signs?

Research shows that Sale signs increase demand, however they are less effective when more items in your store have them.  It is best to carefully select products you choose to place on sale - regardless if they are low priced or more expensive products.  The idea is to create interest and perception of value for money.  Customers may feel if they delay purchase now, the product may not be available, or may be more expensive, next time.
